Prospects of Information Technology in Pakistan



The development of Information Technology has taken place during last two decades of the twentieth century. These two decades can be regarded as the decades in which computer culture got its place. During these decades giant companies like Microsoft Corporation evolved and lot of industry’s pioneer companies failed due to their inability to get in pace with changing technology.

The increased power of software industry could be judged from the volume of international market of Information Technology which is estimated at 600 billion dollars. This volume is increasing at the rat of 18 percent per annum. The bigger market of Information Technology (IT) is USA where major compute manufacturing and software development companies are based. Our next door neighbour India is playing a vital role in the multinational industry. It has developed software industry responding at the right time and positive manner.

In Pakistan efforts are being made for the development of this industry Government is taking keen interest in establishing the Information Technology (IT) institutes. The improvement and advancement in Information Technology has brought even revolution in our daily life. Now we can E-mail a letter and get it on its destination may be any where in the world in a second. These facilities have become a source of employment as a new field. The increasing power of software industry in our country is clear indicated that there should be sincere efforts to develop this industry on strong footings in order to fulfil Government’s desire of solving the problem of unemployment and under employment. The introduction of proper net work of Information Technology and integrated efforts of concerned agencies can make a field blessing for millions un-employed youth of the country.

The potential in Pakistan to generate experts in Information Technology is much high. Pakistan has a great number of graduates and masters of computer science who can do miracle in the field of Information Technology. These potential computer experts can develop software industry with the support of government and earn reasonable amount of foreign exchange by almost negligible investment Future of Pakistan economy for achieving brighter Future economic prosperity and social harmony is related with the promotion of new areas including Information Technology. The development of computer hardware need special attention and efforts should be made to start joint venture with China, Korea and Japan to develop local industry for meeting the ever increasing demands of computer for software experts. The brain drain in Information Technology from Pakistan be controlled and regulated in accordance with our needs, Need of the time is promotion of Information technology, we should make sincere efforts to wards it’s achievement.
