The Advantages of University Education (Essay)


In view of the numerous baffling problems of our country. Universities have a very vital and significant role to play. The real prosperity of a country depends not on the abundance of its revenues, not on the strength of its fortification, not on the beauty of its public buildings but it consist in its seats of learning, in its cultivated citizens in its men of education, enlightenment and character it is the scholars and thinkers not the merchants and soldiers that make or mar the destiny of a country. “Destiny of a nation” remarks Dr; Annie Bassant is folded with in the budding youth as is the flower with in the close embrace of the petals.

 That what our youths think today the nation will think tomorrow. Again the famous saying of Jesus comes to our mind “Give me the children of the country, I will not bother about what happens to the rest so long we are able to impart a good education to our children in schools and colleges, we need not despair of bright future of our country. The social and national reconstruction of our country on a sound and permanent basis presuppose deep thinking and wise planning on the part of our national leaders and administrators. Without a right type of education our youths can not make such leaders of though that are capable of looking at things in their proper perspective and guiding the people on the highway of progress and prosperity.

The fundamental objective of our university education is to produce skilled and highly qualified man in the country. We have to pursue that objection with a purpose, walking with aimless feet is bound to lead us astray in wilderness. There must be vision for which we aspire. It is a good for which we strive.

Pakistan needs more scientist, technicians mathematics, inventors and creators. During last fifty six years we have not produced any scientist or inventors except Dr. Abdul Salam, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, Dr. Samr Mubarak and Dr. Saleem-u-Zaman. Still we depend on others even for our defence needs. In this respect we are far behind our neighbour. In this scenario we have to make our universities centers of science and technology. We see that those countries in the world are respectable and occupy honourable place who are advanced in science and technology. We should engage our scholars and intellectuals in the research work. If we do so we should be on the road to glory.

There are lots of advantages of university education but we are not availing these advantages. We should take advantages of university education and produce more scientist scholar’s doctors and engineers worthy to be called scientist, engineering’s and doctors.
