Terrorism OR Terrorism: A Great Curse

Terrorism is an instrument in the hands of frustrated and dissatisfied minority against strong dominant majority in order to achieve its goals which are denied in peaceful political setup. For the use of threat of violence, the goals of terrorist differ from those of ordinary criminals. Most criminals want money or some other form of gain-but most terrorist commit crime to support political cause.

The word terrorism was used first time during the “French Revolution”. Some of the revolutionaries who seized power in France adopted policy of violence against the enemies. The period of their rule was known as the “reign of terror”.

The man cause of terrorism is the political and economics exploitation of oppressed majority by the people who enjoy the power of ruling. In the intoxication of power they make themselves deaf and dumb towards the rights of the deprived groups. When deprived groups are aloof from social activities, this sense of deprivation creates dissatisfaction in them.

They consider only the mode of violence to remove their dissatisfaction. Present day concept of terrorism is based on duplicity; one man’s terrorism is other man’s freedom fight. Freedom fighter Kashmirs are terrorist for Indians but they are freedom fighters in the eyes of other people. Similarly Israel considers Palestinians terrorist while they justify themselves as freedom fighters. Fore fathers of Americans who won freedom from British with armed assistance of France were considered terrorist by England at that time but they were liberators for Americans.

Some time words are used not only to express the meaning but to conceal them too. Same is the case with word terrorism today. The USA uses this word where it has political designs. So for the USA has put some countries, leaders and organizations on terrorist list most of them being Muslims, such as Libya, Iran, Iraq and Sudan.

Reality is that these countries Leaders and Organization are being labelled as terrorist because their policies are not in accordance with the policies of America. Thus the charge of terrorism is political play in the hands of only Super power. The fact is that Israelis Indians and such others nations deserved to be declared terrorist but political strategy does not demand so. The USA’s acts of bombing Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Tripoli, Sudan, Afghanistan and Iraq also fall in the realm of terrorism, but nations of the world not dare to declare so because might is right.

The World was shaken on 11^th September when two planes hit the world Trade Centre and pentagon the defence headquarters of America. It shocked the whole world community and they stood united against that act of terrorism. USA targeted the Taliban regime of Afghanistan as it was accused of harbouring the planners of the event. Planners in American view were Osama bin Ladin and his al-Qaida organization. After long and hard struggle America has succeeded with the help of Northern Alliance and other groups to outset the Taliban regime but they did not eliminate Al-Qaida, Osama and Mullah Omar completely.

Pakistan is peace loving country. It has always condemned terrorist acts in the world; it has taken firm and serve actions when ever it has to deal with terrorism. It has always supported anti terrorism acts on all international platforms. The example of such policy is its support of America against the Al-Qaida and Taliban Pakistan has faced a number of terrorists. Acts during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. At present it is also facing the terrorist activities of RAW particularly in Karachi and generally all over the country. Pakistan is suffering from Indian terrorism for its principled stand on Kashmir. Pakistan stand by the UN Resolutions of awarding the right of self determination to the Kashmir through free and fair plebiscite.

If the world community wants to prevent terrorism in the world it should take following steps.

1.         Right of self determination should be give to deprived nations such as Kashmir, plaetive and Chechnya.

2.         Democratic system should be introduced in all countries.

3.         Production of deadly weapons should be stopped.

4.         Reforms should be introduced in multination countries in order to provide sufficient autonomy to all nations.

5.         Lin should call an international conference on the question of who is freedom fighter and who is terrorist.

6.         Super power should prove it self worthy of being super power. It should stop discriminating policy among the nation.

7.         Firm measures are needed to check and penalize the states that are sponsoring the terrorist and providing the safe heaven, weapon, explosives, material cash or diplomatic support.

8.         The UN, OIC, European Union, Arab League and such international organizations must condemn terrorism and support struggle for national liberation.
